Throughout my journey in literature, I have grown a lot as a reader. Before I start with my work I make sure I am prepared and ready to do the necessary task. I also try to follow directions correctly by rereading over what the task is that I am to do. Most of the time, depending on the subject, is the way I will read. For novels, I tend to more skim what I am reading because there is usually so many details added. Articles on the other hand I will take a closer look at. They usually will have the most important facts needed without getting into too much fluff. What makes me a good reader is always finishing something thoroughly no matter how long it takes. The one thing I need to work on is my willingness to fail and struggle. The document talks about how it is okay for a person to be uncertain and have their minds challenged. One just needs to be able to accept a change of mind. Throughout the year, I have read many different novels in which I had to annotate. I had never really done this before, so I had to adapt quickly. At first, I didn’t really understand the point, but now I realize how much of a better reader it has made me. It also helps me to understand more in depth to what I am reading. Although annotating is useful, I will not necessarily do it when I am reading for leisure. It is very appropriate in school, in which I need to interpret a book. It will also help with my comprehension skills. In the future, I will use these approaches while reading novels.
